The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is the national standardization body. In performing its duties and functions, PSQCA is governed by the PSQCA Act, 1996. PSQCA came into operation since 1st December 2000, working with 81 scientists/engineers and 254 supporting staff as self-finance organization, been given the task of not only formulation of Pakistan Standards, but is also responsible for promulgation thereof. PSQCA is a member of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro-technical Commission (IEC), and International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML). PSQCA has also been established to advise the Government on standardization policies, programmes and activities to promote industrial efficiency and development, as well as for consumer protection.
The main function of the Department is to foster and promote standards and conformity assessment as a means of advancing the national economy, promoting industrial efficiency and development, ensuring the health and safety of the public, protecting the consumers, facilitating domestic and international trade and furthering international co-operation in relation to standards and conformity assessment.

Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), the apex body of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, March 15, 2015 arranged walk against Food Adulteration in collaboration with City Government, Karachi; and with different NGOs. Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi, Commissioner Karachi, Dr. Barkat Saeed Memon, Director General, PSQCA, Mr. Kokab Iqbal, Chairman, Consumer Association of Pakistan and other dignitaries were present during walk which is started from Arts Council of Pakistan and ended at Press Club, Karachi. Mr. Shoaib Siddiqi, Commissioner Karachi expressed his views that purpose of this walk is to make awareness among common people about food adulteration. He further told that campaign against sub-standards products will be continued from the government and he emphasized on all regulators to ensure standards and quality products are sold in the market by doing proper market surveillance activities. PSQCA always support any movement in developing quality culture in Pakistan told by Dr. Barkat Saeed Memon, Director General PSQCA during walk. He further told that PSQCA vigilance team raided several factories, stores and food outlets to stop manufacture, store and sales of sub-standards products in Pakistan. Mr. Kokab Iqbal, Chairman, Consumer Association of Pakistan told that consumers have to play their role against food adulteration and sub-standards products.
