Brief History of Division:
The Automobiles Division functional since 2014 while previously the relevant standards were being dealt with by Mechanical Division.
Automobiles Division has on record 145 formulated Pakistan Standards and 451 directly adopted ISO Standards.

Scope of Activities of Division:
Automobiles Division works under the Directorate of Standards in Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) [the sole National Standards Body (NSB) of Pakistan working under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Government of Pakistan]. The main function of Automobiles Division is to foster and promote Standardization in the field of Automobiles (including Road Vehicles, Agricultural Tractors and Farm Machinery) in the country and to facilitate promotion of trade by assisting in the international cooperation through standardization. Automobiles Division is mandated to develop Pakistan Standards and to serve as a platform for assistance (in the form of recommendations) to the Government in the field of Automobiles.

Scope of work:
In order to develop the automobiles sector in balance with socio-economic needs and recent developments in the field at national and International level, PSQCA has constituted National Standards Committee on Automobiles (NSC-Auto) in accordance with the Pakistan Standards Rules 2008. The scope of work of NSC-Auto is to undertake the standard development activities in the field of automobiles through its Technical Committees so that the end-customer can be provided quality products in the country.
The main function of NSC-Auto is to advise the Government (through PSQCA) by studying the work of international organizations regarding standards for formulation of Pakistan Standards on Automobiles keeping in view the national needs and priorities.
